❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Keep it short, easy to spell and consistent across platforms. Avoid too many numbers or symbols so people can find you easily.
No tool can guarantee that. Names with unique combinations are more likely to be free, but always check on the platform itself.
Yes, and it is recommended for personal branding. Check that it is free on every platform you need.
Instagram 30, TikTok 24, X 15, Discord 32 and YouTube 30. This generator keeps names inside the limit of the platform you choose.
AI Magic uses AI to write original usernames. To keep the service free, each IP gets 10 AI requests every 2 hours, then the button unlocks automatically. Generate is unlimited.
One Handle, Five Rulebooks: Fitting a Username to Each Platform
A handle that works on Instagram can fail on X before you type the last letter, because X stops at 15 characters and Instagram at 30. A name like Photography_Studio123 runs to 21 characters: fine for Instagram and TikTok, too long for X. Discord, meanwhile, wants it in lowercase. Each platform has its own rulebook, and any username generator that serves social media has to respect them.
This guide covers those rules, shows what the KromoTools tool does and does not enforce, and offers a few habits that make a generated name easier to live with.
What the Tool Enforces, and What It Leaves to You
The KromoTools random username generator builds names from a keyword, an optional second word and about 124 templates in ten styles: classic, cool, aesthetic, gaming, funny, cute, dark, number, symbol and professional. Treat it as a source of username ideas rather than a promise of a free handle. No unique username generator can guarantee availability, and this one does not check it.
The platform handling is real but partial. For the platform you choose, it applies a length cap: 30 for Instagram, 24 for TikTok, 32 for Discord, 30 for YouTube, 15 for X, 20 for Gaming and 24 for Any Platform. Names over the cap are discarded, not shortened. It also removes characters other than letters, numbers, dots and underscores, collapses repeated dots, trims dots from the ends and, for X, swaps dots for underscores. It does not lowercase names for Discord, and the Gaming option's 20-character cap is the tool's own choice, not a game's published rule.
- A style pill overrides the vibe menu, which overrides the default mix for the Gaming platform, and the chosen style is strict. The Aesthetic pill gives names like alex.dawn or the.alex, while Funny gives names like notalex or alex.exe. If you pick nothing, all styles mix.
- The second word appears in only 7 of the 124 templates, mostly Classic. To combine both words, choose the Classic pill.
- Your keyword is cleaned to letters and numbers, so "Sara Khan" becomes "sarakhan" and non-Latin characters are dropped.
- Numbers come from a fixed list of 16, such as 7, 99, 123, 404 and 777, so many people end up with the same ones.
- You can leave the keyword blank and get names built from random words in the style's list. The first 50 results show, and you can load 10 more, up to 200.
- AI Magic runs its results through the same cleaning and is limited to 10 requests per IP address every two hours.
A Worked Example With Real Limits
This example is illustrative, since results are shuffled. Take the keyword "photography", the second word "studio" and the Classic style. One possible result is Photography_Studio123, from the template that joins both words and adds a number. At 21 characters, it fits Instagram (30) and TikTok (24) but not X (15) or Gaming (20). On Discord the length fits but the capitals do not, so you would retype it as photography_studio123.
Switching to X shows the other side. The two-word forms of these keywords run 17 or 18 characters (PhotographyStudio is 17 and photography_studio is 18), so the tool throws them away, and you are left with shorter single-word forms such as Photography7, which is 12 characters. Shortening the keywords helps too. "lens" plus "studio" gives lens_studio at 11 characters, which fits every limit above.
The Rules Each Platform Enforces
- Instagram: up to 30 characters, using letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Periods cannot start or end the name or appear twice in a row.
- TikTok: up to 24 characters with the same allowed characters. Some guides say changes are limited to once every 30 days, so check before you commit.
- X: 15 characters, letters, numbers and underscores only, with no periods.
- Discord: 2 to 32 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods, with no consecutive periods. The display name has looser rules and allows capitals, spaces and emojis.
YouTube handles are less clear, since guides disagree on periods, so confirm at sign-up. These rules change, so verify the limit in each app. If you want one handle everywhere, design for the tightest rule first, which is X's 15 characters with no periods. Because Discord display names can carry capitals and spaces, that is the place for flair, and the Nickname Generator is built for that kind of name.
Pro Tips for Choosing From a Long List
- Check availability on each platform. Search the name or start the sign-up flow. A name that is free on one platform may be taken on another.
- Keep personal details out. Privacy guides advise against real names, birth years, locations and schools in a handle, since they give strangers a starting point for finding more about you. The tool's numbers are not personal, but they are common, so skip any that match your birth year.
- Say it out loud. If a handle is hard to spell when spoken, it is hard to share. Guides also advise avoiding stacks of underscores and random numbers.
- Match the tool to the job. For a game profile rather than a social account, the Gaming Name Generator is the closer fit. For a business, the Brand Name Generator can help settle the brand name before you pick the handle.
Questions the Tool Page Does Not Answer
Why did I get capital letters when I chose Discord?
The tool does not lowercase names for Discord, but Discord usernames are lowercase. Retype any name you like in lowercase before you try it.
Why doesn't my second word show up in every name?
Only 7 of the 124 templates use it, and 5 of those are in the Classic style. Choose Classic to see the most combinations.
Why did I get fewer names than I asked for?
Names that break the platform's length cap are discarded, and a strict style gives the tool fewer templates to draw from. Long keywords on X are the usual cause. Shorter keywords or a different platform setting usually fixes it.
What does the Gaming / PUBG / FF option change?
It applies the tool's own 20-character cap and, if you have not chosen a style, mixes only the gaming, cool and dark styles. It is not tied to any game's rules, so check your game's own limit and requirements.
Is it safe to put my birth year or city in a handle?
Avoid it. Birth years, locations and schools make a handle easier to trace back to you, and public profiles are easy to search. A name made from hobbies or invented words reveals less.
Before You Lock In a Handle
Shortlist a few names, remove any that break a platform's rules, check availability and read each one aloud. If a handle will represent a business or echo an existing brand, check for trademark issues first, and ask a qualified professional if you are unsure, since this guide is not legal advice.
Once the handle is settled, the profile still needs words, and the Instagram Bio Generator can draft a bio with a live 150-character count.
